This four week course presents a design philosophy for industrial and commercial power systems that includes protective device coordination and arc-flash hazard mitigation as an integral part process. The course begins with a review of short circuit analysis including symmetrical components. A look at some common problems encountered during arc-flash hazard analysis prepares the student for the design process. The remainder of the course is presented as a sample design for a small industrial facility. An initial design is done “by hand” within the constraints of the NEC. The initial design is then entered into one of the popular computer analysis packages for completion.

Week 1Short circuit analysis, symmetrical components, and coordination.
Week 2Coordination, common arc-flash hazard problems, and beginning design
Week 3Designing to include coordination and arc-flash mitigation I
Week 4Designing to include coordination and arc-flash mitigation II

Speaker:

Dr. Fred Brockhurst, Professor Emeritus, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology

Professional Development Hours:

8 hours; certificate provided

The course will be held from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at 1230 Morris Street, Indianapolis. The cost of the course will be $60 for CIS-IEEE members, $65 for sister Societies, $70 for all other professionals, and $6 for students. Please fill out the form below or RSVP to Earl Hill, at eshill@loma-consulting.com, so the PES-IAS will have an accurate head count for the course.

Please note that the receipts will provide documentation of contact hours for PE license extension.
