- Vice-Chair's Report:
no firm information on any October activity at this time.
- Committee reports:
- The Engineer's Week 2004 committee:
Meeting on Thursday the 21st in
ET 209 at 6PM. Looking into potential for advertising with Emmis
Communications, public service announcements, bill boards, and print media.
IUPUI may be able to support Engineer's Week activities.
- November Banquet and Awards committees:
have been established.
Ross is the head of the banquet committee and date set for Thursday Nov 20.
Considering having a speaker at the banquet (IEEE related topic)
and have had some interest from contacted individuals (responses due
by 15 Sept). Considering a $15 fee for the awards banquet but
the topic is still under discussion. Discussing possible locations
for banquet: Ritz Charles, University Conference Center at IUPUI
are leading contenders. The awards will be presented for
"Engineer of the Year" and "Member of the Year" with details in a
flyer linked to the CIS website and also released for public
distribution. We will also be recognizing any members who reach
the "Senior Member" level during the year. Yet to determine how
we will do this, IEEE already provides a plaque when someone reaches
this membership level.
- Computer Society:
tentatively meet at One Call in Carmel on second Thursday in Sept, 6 PM.
Tour facility for 40 minutes and hold meeting (possibility of
combining with CIS Ex Comm). No further details at this time.
- Reporter Report:
Target next issue for mid Sept, electronic format and again in Oct/Nov
timeframe, electronic format. Post articles on CIS website and
combine into an issue in Sept and again in Oct/Nov time frame.
Previous advertisement rate structure has been found and will
serve as basis for present/future rates (provide to Shelley).
- Senior Members:
suggested by Harry Bostic (senior member) that we consider having a
group of senior members who can interview potential senior members
at a certain time and location and subsequently act as references
for their applications.
- Student Chapters Report:
Chapters at IUPUI, Purdue, Rose Hulman, and ITT Tech. Jason Sherey is
student activities chair and liason with Rose Hulman student branch.
Jose Ramos and Ken Reid serve as liason with IUPUI
student branch. Purdue and ITT Tech liasons remain open. E-mail sent to
Mark Smith at Purdue's E&CE school to request his support for
better coordination between CIS and university activities
(Signal Processing Society and student chapter). This may help
establish a liason for the West Lafayette student branch.
- EIT 2003 Conference Report:
no formal financial report, ~$3K profit so far, which goes back to
Region 4. Formal presentation scheduled for Region 4 executive committee
meeting.
- Website Development:
Plan to freshen up page, Reporter on line, create a member area,
awards page & link already available, update left side choices
and right side of home page and have a new look by banquet time.
- EMPHASIZE THAT EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETINGS:
ARE OPEN TO EVERYONE AND TENATIVELY
SCHEDULED FOR THE FOURTH WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH AT 6 PM IN ET 209 ON IUPUI CAMPUS.
- Old Business:
Problem receiving CIS mass mailings was identified and not attributed
to spam filtering. CIS sponsored Scholarship announcements ready to
be sent out.
- New Business:
Election of new officers, Ken Reid is head of nomination committee.
Some Ex Comm members have expressed interest in running for same
office next year contingent on results from nominating committee.
