    1. Chair's Report:  Alan started the meeting by noting the Ex Com meetings would be either Wed or Thurs of fourth week of the month. The society chairs are Ed Berbari - Eng in Medicine & Biology, Mike Darnell - Power Engineering and Industrial Applications, Ross Barton - Computer and Ilya Pollak - Signal Processing. The PES/IAS information on the CIS website was either missing or not up to date. Mike said that PES/IAS utilized mass mailings to announce meetings, etc to the membership. Again, Alan expressed a goal of improving coordination with societies and student branches. Alan, Al and Ross plan to attend PACE conference in Seattle. Region IV will pay half of the expenses for at least two people with CIS covering rest. Mike was ask how CIS could support the PES/IAS society with funds from section. Jerry Hohn is the PES/IAS treasurer and would have info on PES/IAS funds status.
    2. Vice Chair's Report:  Ross was not in attendance. No specific information to report.
    3. PES/IAS Activity Report:  Mike reported that the spring short course was finishing up. The awards dinner was scheduled in April. They would have a May planning meeting and pick up again in September. He wasn't sure how the section could support the PES/IAS activities. Improved communications would be a start. They give out student awards at the April banquet and were still looking for a banquet speaker. The date is April 15 with IPL suppling the meeting room, etc.
    4. January Meeting Minutes:  Meeting minutes from last meeting reviewed and approved for posting on website. Minutes to be sent to all on Ex Comm mailing list in the future and then reviewed at following meeting.
    5. Engineering in Medicine & Biology Activity Report:  Ed Berbari wasn't in attendance but still plan to hold meeting to organize society and elect officers.
    6. Computer Society Activity Report:  Ross not in attendance but planning summer short course on building a fire wall with tentative location at library in Beech Grove.
    7. Signal Processing Society Activity Report:  Ilya Pollak not in attendance and unable to keep in contact with the society which is located on Purdue, West Lafayette campus. They had a number of on campus seminars last year. Trying to determine how to improve communications and Ex Comm is open to suggestions on this subject. Section is willing to support signal processing society but needs to determine how to go about this. Also, would like to post information on CIS website for our members.
    8. EIT 2003 Conference Report:  Hossein Mousavinezhad (General Chair), and Alan plan to visit Purdue West Lafayette and discuss conference/his participation with Dr. Mark Smith. We are in the final stretch and having planning meetings every two weeks up until the conference. Have between 40 and 50 abstracts (expecting papers for each). Still looking for contributors from academia and industry. A list of the confirmed speakers and bios are available on the website. We have also received support from other IEEE sections. Specifically, Toledo, Central Illinios and Central Michigan. Have support from DTE Energy and IHETS (in form of streaming video).
    9. The Reporter:  March issue was published and will be mailed out. Printing is done at no charge, we only pay postage to deliver. Plan an issue for April.
    10. The Engineering office at IUPUI:  has a display case dedicated to the IEEE student branch and a motion to fund a similar display case for the Engineering Technology office was proposed. A second option was to use part of an existing display case. No decision made at this meeting, the issue was held for further discussion.
    11. Student chapters Activity Report:  Jason Sherrey wasn't in attendance but had forwarded information to Alan. A request was made to fix/create the link from the CIS website to the Rose Hulman student chapter site. The plan is to request that each student branch give a presentation at the November banquet and in exchange the Section provide funds to support their activities during the year. Section is looking for student members who would be willing to help during the EIT 2003 Conference. Jason has had his membership upgraded from student to member so that he can fill the student activities position for the section. Asking our membership if anyone is interested in being a liason for the Purdue, West Lafayette and ITT student branches.
    12. EMPHASIZE THAT EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETINGS ARE OPEN TO EVERYONE AND TENATIVELY SCHEDULED FOR THE FOURTH WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH AT 6 PM IN ET 209 ON IUPUI CAMPUS.:
    13. Website Development:  Bob wasn't in attendance and nothing was specifically addressed.
    14. Old Business:  Senior members, anyone interested is encouraged to apply for an IEEE "Senior Member" status. Need to develope a list of senior members as candidates need references from three to apply. The section also gets more rebate money from IEEE for senior members. Planning for the November Awards banquet will start shortly, anyone interested in helping contact an Ex Comm member. Potentially, presenting plaques to the new senior members at the banquet ($27 ea from IEEE). Looking at sponsoring a billboard for Engineer's week in Feb 04. Discussed the potential of combining the PES/IAS and section awards dinners, no decisions made at this meeting. PES/IAS banquet is held at IPL cafeteria and Section could provide funds in the future to support this activity. The CIS banquet was held at University Place Conference Center last year. Created an Action Item to discuss location for banquet and begin the planning. Possibility of gathering information on history of the Section for a Reporter article, Marv said this was done years ago (middle 80's) and info may still be available to recreate/update. Activities for the year still being considered/planned: Indians baseball game, potential business/industry tours. Clarion People Mover tour seems to be on hold because of system problems, further details as they become available.
    15. New business:  Ken spent time talking with the Jr/Sr level computer classes before the semester promoting the IUPUI student branch. He also recently visited Marion High School science teachers. The teachers are interested in hosting talks/workshops from our IEEE members on subjects relating to math and science. Particularly interested in subjects that they can incorporate into their lessons. Contact Ken for details if you would like to help out. Always looking for articles for upcoming Reporter issues, any subjects. Welcome suggestions about the CIS website, contact an Ex Com member or Bob directly.
    16. Treasurer's Report:  Bill reported our funding of Ken's trip to Marion High School to provide K-12 support as about $75. Professor Bill Conrad will get a ceremonial check at the Nov Awards Banquet and plan to have a presentation by the best project from his Fall class.
    17. Next Meeting:  Next meeting scheduled for April 23, IUPUI ET 209 at 6PM.

    Respectfully submitted,
    Thomas N. Bishop
    CIS-IEEE Secretary 2003
