Central Indiana Engineering Consultants' Network VoIP: An Introduction and Update
Thursday, February 1, 2007 from 6:45 - 8:30 pm Steve Oschman will present an introduction to and overview of Voice Over Internet Protocol, VoIP. As an introduction, Steve will consider the evolution of telephony, from POTS to patch switch networks and then to VoIP. The pros and cons of VoIP will also be discussed. The present state of VoIP will be reviewed including some vendor specific hybrid systems. Next, Steve will talk about Asterisk® as an open source instance of VoIP for the Linux OS. Asterisk® can be downloaded for free and supports a number of hardware devices. The features of Asterisk will be discussed and an example deployment of Asterisk will be highlighted. Finally, Steve will overview Telemagen's upcoming VoIP workshop to be held March 14-6, 2007. keyword: VoIP, SIP, IAX2, H.323, UniSTM, Cisco Skinny®, MGCP.
