Power & Energy / Industry Applications Society

Scope and Mission

POWER AND ENERGY SOCIETY

The scope of the Society embraces planning, research, development, design, application, construction, installation and operation of apparatus, equipment, structures, materials and systems for the safe, reliable and economic generation, transmission, and distribution, conversion, measurement and control of electric energy. It includes the developing of engineering standards, the providing of information and instruction to the public and to legislators, as well as technical scientific, literary, educational and other activities that contribute to the electric power discipline or utilize the techniques or products within this discipline.

INDUSTRY APPLICATIONS SOCIETY

The scope of Society, as a transnational organization, is the advancement of the theory and practice of electrical and electronic engineering in the development, design, manufacture and application of electrical systems, apparatus, devices, and controls to the processes and equipment of industry and commerce; the promotion of safe, reliable, and economic installations; industry leadership in energy conservation and environmental, health, and safety issues; the creation of voluntary engineering standards and recommended practices; and the professional development of its membership.

Here in Central Indiana the two societies operate together to provide members a wide opportunity for technical meetings. One added benefit of attending the technical meetings is the opportunity to share insights with others in your profession which is often overlooked. We invite all members of the PES-IAS in the Central Indiana area to attend our meetings. The meetings are generally free or reasonably priced (the short courses). We offer professional development hours (PDH) for the short courses, and will eventually do so for all meetings.

The PES-IAS also coordinates its activities with other local societies, such as the Indiana Electric League and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Please feel free to contact Society officers if you have any questions or simply come to a meeting. The meetings are listed on the CIS-IEEE home page.
